I won something in the Sunnydale Memorial Fanfiction Awards. Thanks so much to whoever nominated me and voted for me. Really, really appreciate it.

In other news (such as it is) I've now watched two episodes of Amazon Prime's The Man in the High Castle (S signed up for a month by accident), and one of Netflix's Jessica Jones. Slight spoilers for those behind cut, and please no spoilers for later episodes.

I approached Jessica Jones with a great deal of wariness, after finding the level of violence in Daredevil earlier in the year so hard to stomach. One episode in, it's not as bad, but the tone of it suggests it might still become so. So still wary. I do quite like all the characters so far, though, whereas I was finding Foggy and Karen teeth-grittingly annoying before I'd got to the end of the first episode of Daredevil. We'll see. Have to say, it doesn't endear me to the show that David Tennant is playing the villain with an English accent. What's wrong with him using his own Scottish one?

As for The Man in the High Castle, I'm very impressed so far, though as it's so long since I read the book, I really can't remember how faithful the adaptation is being to it. I'm also surprised that Joe's real identity was revealed so early on (not the case in the book, that I do remember) and am beginning to wonder whether it's been done because they've changed the ending. It all does look great, though - and Rufus Sewell gives good Nazi (though thankfully not with his real accent).

Finally, while I was away from LJ so much in the last few weeks, I watched The IT Crowd. Can't believe I never watched it before. It's hilarious. Why did no one tell me?

Not clicking on the cut since I haven't watched JJ yet, although it's on my list.

But had to tell you how much I adore that icon!

Congrats :)

I loved the IT Crowd - in fact I think I've got the last episode still on the Sky+ box, couldn't bear to delete it.

I've not read 'The Man in the High Castle' but the trailers for the Amazon series are seriously tempting me to sign up for Prime, though I'm resisting so far.

I've already had two free trials and a full year of membership (before the price increase) so I don't think they'd let me get away with that. :(

Nice suggestion though - maybe my daughter would like a free month ...

I watched the first two JJ eps last night, and...yeah. I guess I'm in. As for Tenant's accent, well, the English are obviously sexy and/or sinister. Usually both, don't you know. ;-) Must come with all that practice heading up a virile empire.

I'm hoping to get to High Castle over the long weekend. Oh, and while you've got Amazon Prime, check out "Mozart in the Jungle". No supernatural elements, but enormous fun nevertheless.

P.S. Congratulations on the award! I told you it was good!

I didn't realize for a long time that David Tennant didn't sound like the Tenth Doctor off-screen. Have to say, don't understand why actors have to change accents when there's nothing in the characterization that demands it (really, who can say for sure what a Time Lord's accent should be when speaking an Earth language?), but I've got enormous respect for actors who can do accents (Tony Head, James Marsters, etc.).

And congrats on the SunnyD Award! I loved that story!

We just watched JJ over three nights and yes, enjoyed it. I noticed that the incidental and minor plot situations were not ones that appear in a network show, rather than unusual levels of violence. It was good to see so many active female characters.

Part of me really wants to watch MiaHC and part of me wants to read the book again, first. We watched the pilot last year and I realised I can remember virtually nothing about the plot.

I adore the IT Crowd, and I say that as someone who can't handle most sitcoms, from either side of the pond. They're all just so great together (except for Douglas, whom I really, really can't stand and would prefer to never see).

And it's been so long since I read Man in the High Castle that I don't know that I'd notice liberties if they did take them. In any case, there's quite a long history of people taking PKD's works and rendering them nearly unrecognizable (but sometimes quite enjoyable despite that!), so I don't know that I'd mind, really. :)

Congratulations on the award.

I need to see what JJ is like but I'm not sure about the Man in the High Castle. Viewing is certainly changing and moving away from the TV isn't it ....

You're welcome!

btw - I made some fan art for "Third Wheel". Interested? (I don't suppose there's a free for all day at the IWRY marathon, is there?)

Have watched first four JJ episodes and am enjoying. It's not as self consciously arty as DD (which I still enjoyed, but agree about the violence - nasty). It's more matter of fact (as much as a superhero show can be anyway) and there's daylight! - which was an endangered species in DD.

People have said it flags a bit mid-series and I did think ep 4 was a bit slow - but I don't mind slow if it's used to build characters. Will try MitHC soon, when I have fewer progs to watch. I never thought there woud come a time with too much good TV to record!
