shapinglight: (Lucifer and Mum)

Spoilers behind cut.

Case of the week-wise, this was not my favourite. I guessed immediately who the murderer was. He might as well have worn a sign on his forehead saying 'I'm an incipient serial killer. Ask me how.'

As usual with this show, though, the interesting stuff was to do with the interactions between the cast, with how (yet again) Lucifer managed to make the case of the week All About Him (this week, why do people/ie. me want to punish people? The answer apparently being, because it's fun), with how he interacts with Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, and now with 'Mum,' and how they interact with each other. Nice Dr Linda/Maze cameo. Very nice Mum/Amenadiel scene. Lots of unanswered questions, to do with 'Mum' and 'Dad.' What 'Mum' really wants. Is Maze right about her? Is she trying to get one over on 'Dad',or is she maybe in cahoots with him to bring Lucifer back into the fold? And what the hell is going on with Amenadiel?

Anyway, I enjoyed all that stuff. Can't imagine how Mum/Charlotte is going to get on with Charlotte's husband and kids. It'll be fun finding out. Also, I hope if Dan and Chloe do divorce, Dan is still going to be in the show. I like all the characters enough to not want any of them to leave.

After I'd watched the episode, I went on You Tube to watch the promo for next week's episode, then read the comments underneath. The men who commented were all moaning that there wasn't enough supernatural stuff in the show. Why can't Lucifer use his powers more? The procedural element is boring, etc, etc (I kind of agree with that bit), while the women posting all loved it. I hope this doesn't mean the show is doomed? Do TV program-makers care at all if women watch their stuff, or are they still only interested in male viewers? Or am I wrong to think they think that way?

I loved her repeated instructions to him to keep his hands off the charcoaled crotch. She really knows him, even though she doesn't believe him.

I can't say I'm particularly interested in the routine crime procedural - Castle does that better even in late seasons, but I really enjoy the show. It's nice to see Principal Wood again, still looking extremely hot. And not much older. What is it with that Buffy cast?

Well, considering one of the top rated shows is a female-centric series "Grey's Anatomy" that men don't watch, and has been on for eleven seasons now...

But, it does depend on which channel it's on and their target audience. For television? It's usually the women they are targeting, mainly because men rarely watch anything other than news and sports...

Fox already has mainly a male viewer base, but wants to pull in female viewers...so may well be targeting both, in particular women. (Fox has changed a bit, their previous programming head was fired over a sexual harassment case. So you will see changes there.)

So, in short, yes, it's wrong to think that...now. Fox wants the female viewers.

[In the US, we have over 1000 television channels, and the big broadcast networks seem to be targeting female viewers over male viewers, while various cable channels either target one or the other. ie. AMC which aired Breaking Bad, the Walking Dead, and Preacher -- is targeting men. OWN - targets women. Lifetime - women. USA - men. Syfy - men. TBS - both. TNT - both. FX - hard to say, but both. Freeform - Tweens, mainly tween women. ]

Thank you so much for more promotion! And yay, I'm so happy to see the icon looks good in a post :-) By the time I was done, I was cross-eyed, with no perspective, lol.

Lucifer managed to make the case of the week All About Him.

Ha! So true. But, I have to say props for realism, because it is kind of...typical/common for people in therapy to turn everything into a learning experience? Not that that's a bad thing...I certainly do it myself...

I just wish we'd get some of that protective, mentorship, fatherly vibe he had before he met Chloe. He didn't come off near as immature in the pilot.

Do TV program-makers care at all if women watch their stuff, or are they still only interested in male viewers? Or am I wrong to think they think that way?

No, I think that's still a worry, though logically, it shouldn't be. I'd bet women are as prone, if not more so, to buy fandom swag. And then there's the ridiculously huge promotion of shows we do with graphics, fic, Tumblr, etc, that I imagine is probably much more from women than men.

But they got Tricia Helfer as a regular, and that's nothing to sneeze at, so I'd say there's hope :-)

And about those You Tube comments - we see powers in every episode. :eye roll: They may not be flashy, but this is based on Judeo-Christian myth, and a holiday from supernatural work, not the X-Men in mission mode, for crying out loud.

I'm with you- I don't care so much for the procedurals, but I love the interaction between the characters. :)
