If my speculation about the final scene in the new Lucifer season 3 trailer is correct...
...and Lucifer does find that his attempts to show Chloe his true face don't work, just like his desire powers don't work on her and he's human and vulnerable around her, I've realised that this will make him in his own eyes vis-a-vis Chloe the thing he despises most - a liar.
All along, he's insisted to her that he's never lied to her (though he's not always told her the whole truth, of course, particularly about his mother). In fact, he's been quite open about who he is but, after a slight wobble in season 1 when she ended up shooting him, and another at the beginning of season 2, where she eventually decided to just stop thinking about it, it seemed, she just flat-out doesn't believe him.
Well, you wouldn't, would you?
However, he's now decided he has to not only tell her the truth but also show her, the way he did Dr Linda, and if he finds out he can't and she still doesn't believe him, for a start that puts their relationship on a permanent false footing, and for another she'll carry on thinking that, if he's not a liar, then he's definitely delusional. In other words, his attempt to be completely open and honest will fail miserably and brand him one of the above in Chloe's eyes forever.
Is this 'Dad' punishing Lucifer again, because it sure comes across that way to me?
I'm quite grouchy about Tom Welling being added to the cast again today, I find. I think the cast of this show is big enough already, especially with Tricia Helfer sticking around as Charlotte, and some people already aren't getting enough to do (Amenadiel, for instance). I don't want them being squeezed out any more for some boring, bland, made-in-a-factory so-called 'hunk,' who I personally don't find the least bit attractive, just so there can be an equally boring, bland made-in-a-factory love triangle.
The eternal whinge of the too-invested fan, who doesn't want 'them' tinkering with something they love (while knowing quite well that 'they' created the thing they love and can do what they damn well want with it. ;)
ETA: Yesterday I said that Lucifer not being able to use his angelic superpowers around Chloe was being shown inconsistently, since he's demonstrated his supernatural strength around her plenty of times. Then I remembered that in the first episode of season 2, he was unable to fight off the murderer because Chloe was standing nearby, and now I can't remember if he ever did anything supernatural around her at all in season 2. Hmm.

Date: 2017-08-30 08:31 am (UTC)Interesting question. Given what we learnt in the ep where we met fake!Dad, I think Dad is not really the punishing sort. I think he would most likely be letting Lucifer experience Chloe without being able to have his full powers to help him get back in touch with different feelings and overcome his feelings of rage and rejection. In many ways Chloe could just be the catalyst and Dr Linda is the actual cure that Dad is making Lucifer experience. We really haven't seen anything yet to imply that the God in Lucifer is particularly vengeful or the type to punish unduly beyond what he originally did to Lucifer and Mum. All the stuff that Amenadiel and Uriel did was clearly their own interpretation of what they thought Dad wanted rather than following any direct orders.
But I'm in church all week, it may be colouring my outlook ;)

Date: 2017-08-30 02:20 pm (UTC)I think it's very unlikely that the show will ever make any definitive statements about the true nature of 'Dad.' However, since his pet project at the moment seems to be 'Redeem Lucifer,' I suppose we can conclude that he's not all bad. ;)
Mind you, redeeming Lucifer may well involve some things that look like punishments to both Lucifer himself and the audience. Interesting thoughts about Dr Linda. Sounds quite plausible.

Date: 2017-08-31 08:12 am (UTC)They've already gone further with the nature of Dad than I ever expected them too, so I agree they are unlikely to get much more explicit. Or at least not for a while. Also with Mum not around much any more it changes the dynamic of how Dad will appear.
This is very true. I suspect he might get put through the mill even more this season. Possibly with something that really threatens Trixie.

Date: 2017-08-31 09:14 am (UTC)I've just finished my pre-season 3 rewatch of season 1 and have started on season 2. Realised that we never did find out why 'Dad' threw 'Mum' out of heaven in the first place, nor how that was even possible given that the way Lucifer describes his parents when he's talking to Dr Linda in the first episode makes it seem like they're equally powerful. Obviously, they're not, but that was never explicitly stated.
I'm keeping an eye out as I watch for any instances of Lucifer using any of his powers around Chloe. So far, there's nothing. His roughing up of the drug dealer in the first episode didn't really display his super-strength, and at the end of the episode he seems to have lost it completely because Chloe is just outside the door and he can't fight off the murderer. Hmm.
He definitely does use some of them around her in season 1 so that's big a change that I hadn't really taken in before.
The Walking Dead? Isn't that a bit violent for you?

Date: 2017-09-03 08:39 pm (UTC)Still, Lucifer was one of the consistently best-written shows over the last years, so I am not despairing yet.

Date: 2017-09-04 06:04 pm (UTC)Mostly just a gut feeling. Trixie is an obvious weak spot that Lucifer has and which hasn't been fully explored yet.
I think it was stated somewhere that she caused floods and plagues (?) and a 'few little things like that'. My impression was that she and Lucifer both hated that Dad spent all his time tinkering with his creation and humanity rather than paying attention to the family in the celestial city.
I don't think Mum is necessarily less powerful than Dad, it is certainly stated that Lucifer and Mum could have won last time if they had had the flaming sword. I think the implication was that Dad was sneaky and got the jump on Mum somehow, or used emotional blackmail or something suitably mean and divorce-causing. I certainly don't think we are meant to see Mum as a battered wife.
That would be a big change. Maybe they are implying Lucifer is losing his powers bit by bit as he becomes emotionally more involved with Chloe and humanity generally. Similer to Amenadiel losing his powers.
Suprisingly not. Zombies are so silly and obviously fake they don't worry me at all. It's just squishy stuff and I've never minded squishy stuff. The only bits that worry me are when humans torture other humans, which is starting to happen a bit, so I sometimes have to look away. If it gets past my put off point I will stop of course, but I am enjoying it so far. I can see why it is so popular.

Date: 2017-09-05 07:43 am (UTC)Yeah, I've watched season 2 episode 2 now, where that is stated. I'd forgotten.
As for Lucifer turning more human as time passes, obviously that is what's happening - the same for Amenadiel and Maze. I'm not particularly pleased with that development when it comes to their physical powers. I don't want the supernatural element disappearing entirely.
Having now watched three episodes, Lucifer uses his desire powers in front of Chloe in episode three, but I'm unclear if they actually worked as the person in question confessed to a crime he didn't commit. On the other hand, he wished he'd committed it so maybe it did work?
