Other TV stuff in brief
Nov. 2nd, 2017 02:30 pmVery brief, so no spoilers (or hardly any).
Finished The Defenders before we went away two weeks ago. Was bored by the end. Might watch Jessica Jones 2 if it's available on Netflix (I heard that Disney are starting their own streaming service) but otherwise...meh!
Watched the first episode of Stranger Things 2 on Tuesday night. Liked it a lot. Looking forward to seeing more.
Last Sunday, finished the Ed Burns documentary series about the Vietnam War. Harrowing. Very, very good.
Enjoying Star Trek: Discovery a lot more now, even though...
...most of the bridge crew are still just faces. The episodes with the least Klingons in them are the best. The last two episodes - the one with Sarek and the time-loop thing - have been the best so far, IMO.
Still watching The Expanse season 2. Still love it - so much so that I've bought the DVDs, which I only do when I love something enough to want to keep it forever.
I have this idea, you see, that the internet might go boom! and therefore all 'net-based content will vanish forever, whereas if I have the TV shows I love the most on disc I'll still be able to watch them. This makes no sense whatsoever, I know. If the 'net were to go boom! probably everything else would too.

Date: 2017-11-03 01:10 pm (UTC)Agree that BtVS disappearing off Netflix was a blow. Though I have the entire show on disc, dipping into it on Netflix was terribly convenient. And I feel sorry for people who not only can't do that, they don't have the discs either.
In fact, they probably don't even have a disc player.

Date: 2017-11-07 11:01 am (UTC)I think it's down to S being too lazy to throw it away. ;)

Date: 2017-11-03 02:12 am (UTC)So, it would have to be more than the internet going boom.
That said, getting DVD's isn't crazy, but keep in mind with the way tech is going these days, they may be outdated in five-ten years. Also they do go bad -- or so I've discovered, DVD's are not built to last. I'm still leery of the whole Blue-Ray thing. But then, I haven't watched anything on DVD in three years...and I have a ton of DVDs. I've gotten rid of the one's I don't care about. But this is true of CDs, etc, as well.
Regarding Netflix losing the Marvel series to Disney Streaming? That's not happening until 2019 or thereabouts.
So, yes, Daredevil and JJ are still available on Netflix next year, along with Luke Cage, and Iron Fist if you are still interested in them, not that you are...
[ETA: Having the same issues as yourlibrarian...Stranger Things may have to wait, I still have 7 episodes of The Expanse S2, plus 34-40 hours of DVR shows to watch.]

I have moved over to Blu Ray myself. The quality is so much better. But who knows how long those will last?

I'd give JJ season 2 a look because I like the characters, but I'm pretty meh! about the others. Luke Cage started off well but was ultimately a very dull story, IMO, and I can't stand the kid playing Iron Fist.

Date: 2017-11-03 02:10 pm (UTC)Regarding the Marvel series on Netflix? I agree on Luke Cage. It felt dull to me as well, and derivative of The Wire. (The problem was I'd seen the same story done already, far better, elsewhere.) Shame, because it did have the best cast.
Iron Fist -- I have no interest in S2.
Only two I have interest in are JJ and DD. And I sort of wish they'd do a cross-over with JJ/DD, because their interaction was the best thing about Defenders. Well theirs, and his bit with Electra. But alas, they are apparently going with a LC and IF cross-over instead, silly writers.
Ever since our family made the mistake of investing in 8-track players in the 1970s-80s, we've all been wary of gadets. None of us will buy a new gadget until it's been out for a while, and nowadays few last.
I have a ton of DVDs, but no time to watch any of them. But if my cable or wifi went out...then I'd be watching those DVDs. ;-)

Date: 2017-11-06 10:40 am (UTC)I do that, too. I have select seasons of my favorite things at home. Just in case. :D
I still haven't managed to finish the Expanse s2, but I'm sure it'll be great. I'm looking forward to a time when not everything is eclipsed by Black Sails anymore - while at the same time dreading its end. Being a fangirl is hard, yo. ;)

Date: 2017-11-07 11:04 am (UTC)It is. I don't know how many more seasons of Lucifer I have before A) it gets cancelled at short notice, or B) it jumps the shark, or whatever.
The Expanse is wonderful. I have two episodes left of season 2 to watch and I'm trying not to rush them.
