Lucifer season 3 episode 6
Nov. 7th, 2017 10:15 amOkay, this was totally preposterous. On the other hand, it was an absolute delight from start to finish.
Spoilers behind cut.
Preposterous stuff includes...well, most things, actually. From Ella deciding to go with Lucifer in the search for Candy just because, then turning out to be such a whiz at all things Vegas (never in an annoying way, though, IMO. You just go with it), to Chloe being so put out with Lucifer disappearing on her birthday (this is, if you try to put the episode in current season 3 emotional context, where it really doesn't fit, though it's true, as Dr Linda says, that birthdays can make you sentimental), then breaking into his penthouse, then getting drunk, then trying to break into his safe, etc, etc. Plus the whole Vegas razzamatazz, with Ella and Lucifer in costume, etc, et-more-cetera.
All utterly preposterous, but such great fun, and with such fabulous dialogue (well, some of it), that I just don't care at all. I loved it from start to finish.
Not sure what the Deckerstar 'shippers will have made of it. They've had pretty thin pickings this season so far, and even this episode had a bittersweet quality where the 'ship is concerned. All it really did was to emphasise in a softer way than previous episodes that Chloe is really trying to put Lucifer behind her (get thee behind me, Satan?) and friendzone him completely. Also that Lucifer really does believe that ending it between them in any way he can is best for her.
Hopefully, at some point, Lucifer making decisions on Chloe's behalf-no matter how well-intentioned - will come back to bite him. It should do. We're long past the days of Angel leaving Buffy for her own good, and so on. Or we should be. And hopefully it'll happen soon enough to save the show from the inevitable fan backlash if the situation continues as is. Anyway...
Next week's episode, from what co-showrunner Ildy Moldrovich said on Twitter, is the third of the four season 2-made standalones. After that, we get back to the ongoing season 3 story. That means another Marcus Pierce-less episode next week. Yay!
On the other hand, since Welling is signed for 15 episodes and there've already been three without him, we're running out of Pierce-less episodes fast. Boo!
Trivial stuff (or maybe not so trivial):
I hope Lucifer rather enjoying being frisked by the security guard in the casino doesn't have to count as this season's bisexual reference.
Tom Ellis was miming during the song and dance routine, but I think that was him singing.
ETA: I checked on Twitter. Yes, it was Ellis singing.
