My Fannish Year (that wasn't) 2017

Normally this time of year I post about all the fics I've written the previous year and any other fannish stuff I might have done, but this year I'm afraid I can't do that. Due to this and that, I only wrote one story in 2017, and even then I'd written most of it the year before.

This was: House Guests From Hell and How To Send Them Back There, an historical Fanged Four story, featuring a spirited fight-back by Spike and Drusilla against a bunch of unwanted - and very unwelcome - house-guests. PG-13.

I also finished revising my old story Family Reunion, and posted it to A03. It's also a Fanged Four story but in a very different vein (heh! that's a pun), very, very dark. NC-17.

A-and that's it, apart from adding a big chunk to my still unfinished Spangel story, which I'm now very dubious about ever finishing. We'll see. If I decide to give up on it, I'll try and tidy up what I've written so far and post it, with a synopsis of the bit I haven't written. Or something.

I did nothing else fannish at all, unless you count watching a lot of TV. :(

I gotta push back a little, Deb. Family Reunion is not very, very dark. It's medium dark! I've read very, very dark. (Some of it by you). But it is one of the best stories ever written!

And House Guests From Hell and How To Send Then Back There was just spectacular.

So all-in-all, two very worthy accomplishments. :)

Really? You think so? I thought it was pretty dark in an emotional sense, if not so much in a sexual one? You're right that I have written an awful lot of very dark stuff. It's weird. These days, it feels like a completely different person did it.

Very glad you liked my Fanged Four story. I can almost envisage myself writing more of those, but more because it's fun to play in the historical sandbox really.

Yes, it does in a sense. I can see why you refer to "your evil twin". I like both versions. I will have to go back and re-read Family Reunion one of these days. I remember it being emotionally dark in a way that was exquisite because... vampires. If there is going to be a story about vampires, it should be dark and deranged.

Getting your stuff backed up/duplicated online is still a good use of time though given how much stuff gets lost each year. I undertook the time suck last year but am glad I did. It's nice getting those occasional kudos emails, especially when someone follows up on more than one post :)
