Still no news on renewal or cancellation. I'm feeling quite disheartened about it. Not least because...

Spoilers behind cut

...this was a bloody excellent episode. And that's despite the fact it was all about Chloe choosing Pierce over Lucifer (which is sort of explicable in a Watsonian sense but doesn't work for me on the Doylist level at all). But even so it had (almost) everything I could have wanted in a Lucifer episode. Great dialogue, great acting, interactions between the cast that were involving and referred back to things in the past - in particular Lucifer making choices for Chloe, and the Sinnerman story-and something important for everyone to do (except maybe Ella and Dan who just got to be pro-and anti-Pierce cheerleaders).

My favourite bits were the Amenadiel/Charlotte interactions, the Lucifer/Chloe scenes, and in particular the final Lucifer/Linda scene. Wonderful stuff, I thought.

Seems, [personal profile] lyr was right about what broke Pierce's curse - Chloe falling in love with him. I'm not sure it entirely works for me, though, because it would suggest that Chloe was in love with Lucifer as early as season 1 episode...four, was it? Where she shot him and he bled? Maybe it'll still turn out to be more the other way around - that the person (Lucifer or Pierce) has to be in love with Chloe to be vulnerable to her. We'll see. We'll also see if Maze can still carry out her fiendish plan to the bitter end, and if Lucifer will really reveal his true self to Chloe, as he fully intended to at the end of season 2.

Maybe. Unless the show is cancelled. Which it could be.

It was definitely one of the better episodes. I was amused by Charlotte's "mission from God" fervor. I'd love to see her and Amenadiel become the inverse team of Lucifer and Maze.

I also agree that Linda had something important to do in this episode which was nice to see. We haven't gotten much of her this season.

It makes far more sense to me that falling in love with a person makes an immortal vulnerable in her company - Lucifer is the king of denial, but surely that's been the case for him since mid S1? It makes sense for Pierce too, though I still don't trust him. (And don't think Tom Welling has worn at all well, frankly.)

I never found him particularly pretty, but he was young and fresh-faced, and now he isn't and looks a touch seedy, to the point that I can't really work out what Chloe sees in him.

Even when getting all violent he's just 'meh'.

Agreed on the Lucifer/Linda and Amenadiel/Charlotte scenes. Linda's last speech was especially good. I had trouble believing Chloe would just say yes to Pierce like that, though. It seemed abrupt.

You may still be right about how Chloe's power works. The boys could just be assuming.

As I understand it when a show is cancelled it tends to just be cancelled, so a mysterious delay like this normally means contract negotiations are taking for ever. In other words the most likely scenario is they basically want to renew but somebody important in the cast is causing trouble. Something like that is unlikely to actually prevent renewal, it is just brinkmanship.

I liked all the Lucifer realizations in this ep, and Linda coming after him was glorious!

Yes, Charlotte and Amenadiel were cute, but I don't see her actually donning leather and going after Pierce, that was a little over the top. That he rides like the devil (hee) because he's immortal, I can see, but her? Not bloody likely.

I also don't see Chloe agreeing to marry Pierce on the spot. Him proposing, okay, but her agreeing? No.

So that episode stretched my capability to find it believable. :/

What I like these days is that Lucifer isn't quite as obnoxiously focused on the "thing of the week" as he used to be - they've found a balance that I find bearable.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the show being renewed.
