Re: the possible BtVS reboot, my opinion is (not that anyone cares about my opinion, but still...)
Spoilers behind cut for Netflix's Sacred Games
...that it doesn't bother me. I understand why they'd want to reboot the character rather than going with a new Slayer. As my son-in-law said the other day, who is going to tune in to watch a show called Caroline the Vampire Slayer, (or whatever)? 'Buffy' is the name everyone recognises. And it's not like it can affect the original story. As
beer_good_foamy once memorably said (re: the (mostly) execrable Buffy comics), it's not like they can climb inside my DVDs and change them.
In fact, my main quibbles about it are firstly, that it's Fox that's doing it. I'd thought that, with Lucifer no longer on that network, and The Americans finished on FX, I was done with having to watch any of their content, and I was really pleased about it. Secondly, since I have very ambiguous feelings about Joss these days, I wasn't that pleased about him being that involved with the project. But if he's only exec producing, basically, as I understand it, he'll be being paid for doing bugger all, so that's okay. My third quibble is that the only show the writer of the reboot has been involved in that I've seen is Agents of SHIELD, and I think that's crap, so that doesn't fill me with much optimism re the quality.
But it could be great, who knows?
Other TV watching stuff:
I've finished that Netflix Indian drama, Sacred Games - the one with the subtitles that transliterate the characters' Indian English into American. It was really good, I thought, though I was not pleased when one of my favourite characters - the main female one, as it happens - was killed in the penultimate episode. It also ended on a total cliffhanger so I really hope there's going to be another series. They can't end it like that!
The villains, btw, appear to be a bunch of nutty millenarians, both Hindu and Muslim, who've decided that humanity needs to be wiped out so God can begin again.
Not sure what to watch next. Think I'd better concentrate on finishing Mozart in the Jungle. Currently half way through a re-watch of season 3.

Date: 2018-07-25 04:30 pm (UTC)Not being a musician, but a lover of classical music, I have to admit I love it. It's laugh out loud funny at times and there's been some wonderful music in it. There are four seasons altogether, but Amazon have cancelled it now.

Date: 2018-07-25 08:16 pm (UTC)I suspect this feeling is more common than we know. I have a friend who sends climate change rants in every email and sincerely feels we all deserve to die in a hellscape so the earth can start again without us.
Of course, in some ways this is an easy POV to take since it will happen sooner or later as it already has several times in the earth's existence. I suppose one can take satisfaction in death knowing you were right?

Date: 2018-08-04 05:08 pm (UTC)There's an old BBC drama from the early 1980s that is predicated on the same notion in many ways. It's called Edge of Darkness and features a stellar turn from Joe Don Baker as a rogue CIA agent. I guess it'd probably seem a bit dated now but I thought it was brilliant at the time.

Date: 2018-07-27 12:50 am (UTC)1. Not a remake will be a brand new slayer
2. Not a prequel - so no, Nikki the Vampire Slayer (which frankly wouldn't work for me, too depressing and angst ridden)
3. Won't be on Fox or affiliated with Fox. Disney is buying 21 Century Fox and Fox Studios. The only things that Fox is keeping is the news outlets, and their stations (distributor). But the studio is being sold to Disney for a cool 72 Billion. (It was 52 B, but Comcast made a counter offer, so they upped the price.)
4. Probably end up on Hulu along with the rest of Disney's content.
5. It's only in the pitch stage, there's nine more stages to go before it airs, and it could still get yanked. We won't know if it gets picked up until well, sometime around May 2019 if that. A lot of these things just disappear. They're just drumming up interest at the moment.
Re Mozart in the Jungle...still meandering my way through S3. ;-)

Date: 2018-08-04 05:10 pm (UTC)Me too, though I've seen it before, of course. I wanted to rewatch the entire series before going on to season 4, but at the rate I'm going I'll have to start all over again.
