shapinglight: (Lucifer season 4 - Lucifer and Chloe)

Sadly, Netflix haven't decided to un-cancel the show. On the other hand, according to co-showrunner Ildy Modrovich on Twitter and various of the actors including Tom Ellis himself, they have added some extra episodes to season 5. There are going to be sixteen now, instead of ten, so yay!

Again, according to Ildy, it's all down to the fans, so yay! for them too.

I am a fan, obvs, but I'm not part of the extremely active Lucifer fandom on Twitter. I just look on in awe.

We have to be happy with what we get - and 16 new episodes after season 4’s finale is a godsend (no pun intended). Just looking forward to more of our favorite devil and cohorts

Wow, that's a pretty long season for a Netflix show -- they are apparently usually making 8 nowadays so that's like an extra season.

From what I've seen...Netflix likes 8-13 episodes. (Providers prefer 13 -- magic number for DVDs). So yeah, 16 episodes is REALLY long.

They'll probably break it up into two sections -- with eight each, so two seasons for the price of one.

From what I've read -- the decision was sort of mutual? The writers and cast seemed to be happy about having just a S5 and felt it would be better to go out on a high note.

Netflix, however, is weird. They have this very weird business model in that they don't like long-running series. They prefer limited series or series that run maybe three seasons possibly five. So they can afford a lot more content. It's very odd.
Also they aren't consistent with this -- since they renew limited series like Russian Doll and Haunting of Hill House that aren't really set up to be series, and seem to cancel series that are popular after a few seasons..Santa Clarita Diet.

Very odd platform. A friend of mine doesn't see how it's not going to implode at some point.

That busines model makes sense to me. They are trying to achive growth. New series bring in new subscribers, with most new subscribiers being initially persuaded by just one or two specific new shows that appeal to them. Almost by definition the existing bundle was not enough to attract those new subscribers, the new things was. So they need a constant churn of slightly different things to try to find the magic one that will attract each individual. Meanwhile existing subscribers are unlikely to cancel because just one show has been cancelled, because once they have joined they will stay for other things. So it makes perfect sense to put their limited budget more into new shows than existing ones.

It would if they didn't have over 900+ series on at the moment, not including movies, and a horrid search engine. Not that Hulu is much better.
I can't find things on Netflix. I don't know what the European version looks like. But the US version is VERY hard to find things on, and inconsistent in content offerings. Amazon is actually slightly better, although not by much.

There's such a thing as having too much content. And a lot of the content...sigh.

I've been seeing your Lucifer posts on LJ for sometime and in June I decided to give it a spin.

OMG - this show. I am now at Season4ep 4 and am torn between wanting to binge the rest in the shortest possible time to savouring every episode slowly to make it last. Like you, not part of the active twitter fandom but I was spared the painful cancelled/renewed/cancelled angst.

So ultimately thank you for the recommendation, it's the only show since the demise of the whedonverse to which I have really become addicted.

Newsnight? Oh yes I must go find it on you-tube. I've just checked how many episodes are in S4 and very sad to learn it is just 10, and I am now up episode 6. Resisting following any social media Lucifer accounts until I have caught up.

Inspiration is tough for me to find at the moment but I am pleased that I actually did a couple of Lucifer portraits for the LFCC signing this weekend past, next I will be looking at editing a vid after at least a two year gap.

Plus I caved and did the wings photo shoot with Tom Ellis too.

I'm finding S4 more intense than 1 or 2, and dare I say the quality of the action scenes has improved? The Convention was luck as I was there just to see Gina Torres, and I saw Tom announced at the last minute. Sadly Gina's talk clashed with the Lucifer one so I didn't catch it, but I had waited for over 15 years to see Gina.

I will post the portraits on tumblr and LJ over the next few days. I am looking forward to going back to your postings about the show too.

Btw I spent most of yesterday reading all your entries tagged Lucifer... It seems we agree about Tom Welling and most things really. I am up to Ep 5 Season 1 on my rewatch, just because I can and helps me with ideas for a vid (crosses fingers)
