I slept really badly again last night - woke up in the middle of the night from a dream of John McCain winning (I was too scared to stay up and watch on TV). Managed to get back to sleep, dreamed that Obama won by a landslide. Woke up telling myself not to get excited, it was only a dream. Ran downstairs - and it was true!

Am so, so happy this morning.

I know Mr Obama has a very, very difficult task ahead of him. There are bound to be mistakes, compromises - that's the way in politics. But that's for the future. At the moment, I feel like I'm walking on air.

In fact, the only tiny niggle I have is for The Daily Show. Who is John Stewart going to make fun of now?

True - and I think it's very unlikely that Fox News are suddenly going to discover their inner liberal.

FOX's numbers have slipped but they have a fairly strong base of viewers and I think they are likely to rebound as they now can more realistically take on the "minority" position they're so fond of declaring themselves to be. I suspect, given the way voters were stirred up by this election, that their coverage is going to be uglier than ever since they can't be cheerleaders any more.

At the same time I can deal with a FOX. As long as they shut up about being "fair and balanced" it's useful knowing who and what they are and what they're trying to get people to think. It's when the rest of the media doesn't bother to do its job that I get really aggravated.

I suppose, though I have to say that after 10 years or however long it is of whinging and pretending to be victims while politicians on their side of the political fence send the country spiralling into bankruptcy, I find I have very little sympathy for them.

I agree this is far more of a problem. I think probably most people know where Fox is coming from and are sensible enough to realise they're neither balanced nor fair.

*sigh* Probably, he'll make fun of my state now. I'm ashamed to say that my fellow Arkansans voted to ban gay couples from adopting children. We've got a lot of work to do. :(

Yes, I saw about some of these propositions getting through, including Prop 8 in California, which is bad. However, I guess it's heartening to know that so many younger people voted against it. The future is theirs, after all.

The weird thing about Bush is that, though he's done such enormous damage, I believe Mrs Bush when she says he's a good man. I'm sure if one met them as a couple they'd seem very nice people.

Very nice people who should have stayed well away from top-flight goverment, however.

I feel so sorry for Mr Obama. They've left him with such a mess to clean up.

I'm so happy and honored to be an American today. I woke up and the world just seemed brighter somehow...like humanity had just accomplished something great.

I have confidence that President Obama will do his best at all times, and that's all any of us can ask of him. Thankfully we all know his 100% eclipses George W. Bush's by gargantuan proportions.

I'm very glad for you. I'm sure President Obama will do his best, and just sorry his task is so huge. There can't be many presidents in history who've been left such an awful mess to clean up.
