That's pretty much a given, isn't it? Heh! I think your family is wise to set up a counter-chant to help quell the depresso vibes.
I hope you like Being Human. I loved it to bits (as you may have noticed). As for Doll House, I've seen an awful lot of negative stuff about it so far, but it's only 3 episodes in. Hopefully, Joss can still turn people's thinking around.
I've rationalized that maybe they're giving the actors opportunities to get their angst on.(?) What they wish to accomplish beyond that, I don't know. Nothing cheery, I think.
I tend to think it goes beyond current political climate. I think it's pretty much based in a broadly nihilistic view of human nature as a whole.
...which, honestly, I don't particularly agree with, which may be why I've always found BSG to be more intellectually intersting than emotionally moving.
I think it's become hellish but to be fair, I don't like sci-fi shows and that's basically what it's become instead of the political allegory it was when I started watching it. If you like sci-fi shows in general you may very well find it more enjoyable than I do.

Well, I wouldn't say I like sci-fi shows in general. I like some (B5, BSG) and don't like others (Star Trek), so I'm more likely to like the last eps of BSG than not seeing as I already like it. I never thought it was an allegory, though. That it was trying to say stuff about contemporary politics, sure, but not an allegory.
You may very well enjoy it much more than I am then. It's become increasingly not what I signed up for, but as it's a show set in space on the sci-fi channel then that's fair enough.
If you don't mind (or it can be explained in a non-spoilery way), I would be interested to know what made you decide it was a straight political allegory in the first place.
It's great! I don't really post about it, i'm not sure why... maybe because so often it boggles my brain so I feel I need to watch all of it twice before I can say anything intelligent on the subject beyond OMFG STARBUKK!!

I have that problem too. I meant to write about the first part of season 4 when I'd finished watching it, but never got around to it, and now I think I would need to watch it all again before I could say anything sensible.
I'm increasingly liking Tigh, too, which I never thought would happen at the start of the show.
I'm planning to start at the beginning when it finishes and watch straight through - I've watched it over several years, so I think I need to get a more coherent view of it before I can say much that's interesting :)

Weirdly, I've always liked Tigh, even when he was at his most unlikeable, which is weird because nasty old bigoted drunk isn't usually what I go for. I did enjoy his relationship with Adama Snr, though. Odd about him and Starbuck. In the first series, there was sno much antipathy between them. I was sure there was going to be a bigger story there, but there never was. A dropped plot-thread, I suppose.
Thanks. I was beginning to get the nagging feeling that the lack of comments about it must mean people thought it had jumped the shark at the last hurdle, as it were. Now, it seems more like people just don't know what to say.
I'm finding it pretty awesome overall, with the notable exception of Jane Espenson's episode two weeks ago. Jane, Jane, you're such a great writer. Why are your BSG episodes so terrible? But, yeah, overall definitely great — although I'm getting really worried about how they're going to wrap things up in just three more episodes.
I thought it was pretty good, in fact. What was it you didn't like about it?
Thinking about it, I can only think of 2 BSG episodes I've thought were really dreadful and I don't think either of those were Jane E's. There was the black market one in season 2 and the one calle The Woman King in season 3.
According to MiAmor, "they just wasted two (2!) shows on damned Cylon soap opera!" He's quite incensed. I am more sanguine, but there's only three eps to go. With that in mind, I do think it's been a bit heavy on filler during the last couple. I miss the taut storytelling, but I'm trusting that they're going to make it worthwhile in the end.
I have no spoilers, but I did attend the ComicCon BSG panel last July, and wrote about it on my journal. Apparently, there is massive action coming up.
Doesn't surprise me. I don't think I wrote anything at all when my kids were little. Still admire you enormously for managing to produce that Spander story last year.
I've mentioned it a few times, including in my last post. I'm very much enjoying these latest episodes though, as noted above, perhaps "enjoy" is not quite the right word.
I have to say I'm loving the last episodes. I won't give you any spoilers, but they are making sense of a lot of things that didn't make sense before and showing that they really knew where they were going. It's funny to me too all the comments about it being depressing. Dark yes, but I wouldn't call it depressing.

Can't wait for Hulu to start showing "Being Human"! That's getting such raves from my flist.
We're also rather enjoying "Doll House".
There are boy dolls. This makes me happy.

I think I remember liking one of Jane E's episodes in season 3. Can't remember which. Was it the one where Kat died?
