SFX Vampire special
Jun. 10th, 2009 08:54 pmI'm sure this will come as no surprise (not to mention the only sensible choice) to everyone on my flist, but it's official: according to the readers of SFX Magazine, Spike is the best screen vampire of all time.
I don't usually buy genre TV magazines any more, but this month's SFX Vampire special caught my eye and once I discovered who had won the popular vote amongst their readership, I had to buy it. Yes, Spike even beat Christopher Lee's Dracula into 2nd place. That's my boy! SFX being the kind of magazine it is, their write up about Spike declared that one of the reasons he deserved to beat Dracula was because he's 'the only vamp on our list who's got away with using the word 'wanker' on US network TV.' Heh!
For those of you wondering grumpily, what about Angel, the broody one came third. Other Buffyverse vampires did well too, with Drusilla at 10, Darla at 25, Harmony at 31, Vampire Willow at 32 and the Master at 39.
Mitchell and Herrick from Being Human did pretty well too, with Mitchell at 21 and Herrick at 15. Hoorah!
And best of all, annoying Edward from Twilight only came in at 11, despite all the hype surrounding that franchise.
The special also contains a free poster with the Being Human cast on one side and the Twilight cast on the other (bet you know which way round it's going to be in my house), and a set of Buffyverse coasters, featuring Spike, Buffy, Angel and the BtVS cast from season 5. There's also a new interview with James Marsters, done when he was over here for the Marstersclass, and an interview with Juliet Landau (she doesn't reveal anything about the upcoming comic, but does say she has loads more ideas, so I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more of Dru from IDW). There's a piece about Being Human and an Ultraviolet the TV show vs Ultraviolet the movie smackdown.
The JM interview is very nice. Most of his answers I've heard before, after several years of attending JM Q&A's, but I will try and transcribe some of the more interesting questions/answers if I get the chance (Sunday, possibly?) if no one else has done it first, and precis anything interesting from the Being Human article.
And once again, congratulations to our Spikey! Very well deserved win.
