Jul. 17th, 2009 12:16 pmHi again.
I haven't really posted since Monday. Am still deep in the RL stuff that's made me largely absent from LJ this week. Not to mention my hands hurt like the b*****y. Every time I log into my email inbox I feel a horrible wave of guilt at how full it is. All these unanswered comments! I've never not answered comments.
This time, however, I think I may have to -partly because I'm about to go away for the weekend and am not back till Monday, partly because a lot of those unanswered comments are to do with Torchwood: Children of Earth and are in answer to posts I made during watching the series. And since TW: CoE is over and we all know what happened (don't we?), it seems a bit redundant to answer comments speculating about what's going to happen on Day 5, or whatever.
More behind cut with vague spoilers for TW: CoE
I will still try and answer comments directed at me from my post about Day 5 when I get back next week. They were interesting, plus I'm still digesting the series myself and thinking about it, though very aware that in the intervening week most of you have talked yourselves out and moved on to other things. I haven't changed my mind about Jack, btw. I still don't feel sorry for him. I haven't changed my mind about TW: CoE either. I think it was brilliant and disturbing, and what I always hoped TW would be and which it never was until now (ie. sci fi for grownups). Not that I didn't enjoy some of the silliness in season 2, and you all know I loved Captain John - and sadly, I can see all too well that if TW does come back, its very success in this darker Quatermass-like incarnation very likely means that the BBC will opt for a similar format and feel, and there'll be no place for larger than life characters like John Hart.
Be that as it may, TW: CoE has given me a Jack/John plot bunny, which I hope to write (the first time I've managed to think of an idea for a non-Buffyverse fic longer than a drabble). I should also be thinking about my story for my own ficathon - the Darla one - but have to say, I'm currently finding it very difficult to think about fandom stuff for long. I hope I can get back to it at some point soon.
See you all next week, and please link me if you've written anything or seen anything on LJ you think I might be interested in. I feel like I've lost touch, and I don't like it.

Date: 2009-07-21 01:26 pm (UTC)Not much sign of that so far, I'm afraid, but I'm sure the rest did them good. And it was so very kind of you to make me those icons. They're really lovely.

Date: 2009-07-17 01:08 pm (UTC)You know... I think it's very interesting that John's arc was never closed.
He did some terrible things (coerced by Gray) but RTD and Chibnall didn't kill his character off. I THINK IT'S FOR A REASON.
Not to the point where I'm going to let myself be let down since we know what happens when people get seriously attached to Torchwood characters, but that IS interesting.
OH PLEASE write your bunny. :D

And I shall do my best to write this bunny. I started it over the weekend, though didn't get very far.

Date: 2009-07-17 02:11 pm (UTC)I completely agree. I just hope it encourages the BBC to do more grownup sci fi, whether it's TW itself or not.
Do take care of your hands. Are there any exercises you can do to help them or do they need complete rest? And don't answer this comment if it hurts!
Have a good weekend.

Date: 2009-07-21 01:29 pm (UTC)It would be nice.
As for my hands, I expect complete rest would be the best thing but I can't really do that. We'll see.

Date: 2009-07-17 02:45 pm (UTC)As one of the five people here who doesn't download, I haven't seen it yet. It'll show on BBCA starting the 20th. I have a bundle of entries that I may go back to when it does show, provided I can find them. I didn't bookmark...

Date: 2009-07-17 03:48 pm (UTC)But what about the Doctor, though it hasn't been shown on screen ? He has had to make the same sacrifices a thousand times over. The Doctor not only sacrificed his grandchildren, but also his children, wife and any other relatives he had. Do you have no sympathy for the Doctor as well ?
