In the end, I went with season 4 of The Wire.

Brief spoilers for that and ep 2 of True Blood season 1 behind cut.

I think in the end I picked season 4 of The Wire as my next thing to watch partly because I wanted a complete contrast from the strange, glossy, fantastical world of Dollhouse (was trying to explain to [livejournal.com profile] sueworld2003 on the phone the other night why I love that show so much. Couldn't). So anyway, I opted for gritty reality, and of course can't now think why I waited so long to watch more.

Season 4 opens with one of those bravura scenes the show does so well - Snoop and the hardware store clerk, who talks about power tools as if they were guns - and after that, it was getting reacquainted with characters I've come to feel I know, even though their lives are so different to mine (and I often have trouble understanding what they're saying). There's Bodie still on his corner and Carver still dropping by to hassle him, Bunk with his cigars, and Lester and Kima just quietly getting on with the job. And Mcnulty looking happier than I've ever seen him. Meanwhile, I have a horrible sense of doom hanging over me about poor Pres. :(

As an (almost) complete contrast, I watched the second episode of True Blood last night and thought Bill somewhat less drippy and annoying, Jason Stackhouse an idiot (all that working out has obviously been bad for his brain), Tara and Lafayette far and away the most interesting characters, and the title sequence inspired. HBO are good at title sequences, aren't they?

In other news, I got my Darla fic back from my beta, and though there is still work to do on it, she mostly liked it, so I'm happy. :) I've taken next week off work and hope to polish it up then.

Have just re-read this post and I really am just spamming, aren't I?

It's still early days for this program. I'm hoping both Sookie and Bill will get more interesting - I don't think she would be interested in him if he wasn't a vampire!

Jason will improve, trust me.

I adore the wee man-slut, Jason. He's so delightfully dim. :)

... okay, so I'm sexist. Sue me.

I'm with hello_spikey--I love Jason. He's so pretty and dim. *g* Tara and Lafayette are great. I like Sam, too. And Eric.

I think Lafayette rocks in True Blood! Haven't gotten through Season one yet, but I am getting there. :-)
