The Calendar Post: Camouflage

Well, it's December. I've uploaded my little Christmas fox icon, and here is the final Calendar Post of 2009, which means it's the last picture from my wonderful sueworld2003 fanart calendar. Thanks again to sueworld2003 for creating these beautiful works and to dwyld without whom not.

Yet again, I've only managed a drabble. I don't think it's any good, but perhaps it sort of goes with the picture - turning of the year and all that - and even if the drabble makes you shudder, you can still enjoy the picture.

You won't see me till it's too late.

I'm hidden among leaves, drowned in ivy – the thing that lurks in dark alleys. The real monster in the bedroom closet.

You won’t hear me till it's too late.

I'm silent as the grave, or loud as glass smashed on wet pavements, the impact of blade in flesh, the blare of police sirens. Either way, you won't hear me coming.

You won't smell me till it's too late.

Not until the scent of blood taints the air. Rich, slippery -like iron filings on the tongue.

I'm death. Gonna give me a kiss?

That was fun. I liked the "You won't" refrain. And the last line was absolute Spikey perfection.

I still wonder if JM misses the multi-faceted character he OWNED for so many years, as there doesn't appear to be a role of similar scope and larger-than-life attributes available.

Thanks, love. And I don't know what happened to the picture either. It was there last night. I thought maybe it was a problem with Imageshack but the site seems okay.

Will have to sort it out later. In the meantime, it's a drabble without a picture. :(

The picture is gorgeous and the prose matches it perfectly. And as other people have mentioned, I can just hear it in Spike's voice in my head- a sensual, deadly, self confident purr.

Though it's scary I can't help but smile a little because there's un underlying sense of boasting there very much in accord to the pose of Spike in the image (which is gorgeous by the way)and in character in general.

Hopefully we'll have the pleasure to read other calendar posts next year, but of course you need the material to work on.

Thank you, and sadly I fear this is probably the last ever calendar post. I haven't even tried to get the official BtVS calendar this year after the debacle of last year's.

Am very glad you enjoyed this one, though. I feel privileged to have been allowed to try and find words to fit the pictures.
