What sort of trouble have you been having on Yahoo? As far as I know it's been working fine for me. But yes, I'm starting to see anxiety now about all the stuff on LJ that isn't backed up anywhere else.
I think it might have been a problem with Firefox on the laptop I was using rather than with Yahoo. I'm using a different browser and it's fine now.
My fics are all backed up in other places and the icons I would lose if LJ went south are all downloaded, but even so, I would be very upset to lose all the content I have on LJ that isn't backed up - basically all my posts from some time in the middle of last year and my memories. :(
Yes, Memories is definitely a problematic issue. I know DW has been working on it in terms of remaking a Memories function here that would be like a broader bookmarking tool instead of just an internal one. And given that Delicious is also being sold and likely changed, it seems a good choice. Whether or not they'll ever be able to do an LJ Memories import, I don't know.
Similarly, AO3 is planning on a non-internal one as well but I also doubt it's going to be able to do imports.
Oh well. Can't have everything, I suppose. Speaking of imports, I've been in a queue since 10am this morning. I started one thinking it would be quiet, but sadly it isn't.
As the DW News posts have reported there have been several online sites shutting down -- Inksome and Vox among the most recent. I think it's an under-reported issue in the news, not so much that companies are closing but that people are losing their data and significant loss of work. As your comment about Memories points out, not everything can be easily saved or migrated. Just because there can't be dollar costs put on something doesn't mean it can't be measured in something like hours of labor.
