True Blood season 3 ep12

I probably shouldn't jump in and write this review so quickly, but I'm back at work tomorrow and probably won't have time.
I think the episode worked fairly well in a typical bonkers True Blood way. Most storylines were left hanging - did Sam kill Tommy? Where has Tara gone and when will she be back? Is Lafayette a witch too? Is Arlene's baby really evil? What on earth will Jason do with all those inbred hillbilly types, and what does he see in Crystal anyway? What will Maxine do with that gun? Are Sookie and Bill really over (as if!)? Who will win the Bill/Queen Sophie-Ann smackdown? Etc, etc.
Mind you, as you might guess, I was most interested in the main storyline about King Russell. I think the way it played out worked for me. I've been rather annoyed with Bill for the constant doublecrossing, and him trying to kill Eric and Pam was the last straw, so I was pleased to see Sookie finally learn the truth and throw Bill out of her house. Loved the Eric/Godric stuff and think Eric still maintains his mystique in a lot of ways, in that you just don't know how he'll react to things even now. I think what surprised me most in this episode was Sookie pouring the remains of Talbot down the sink and laughing at King Russell's grief. That wasn't nice. Is it supposed to be an indication that consorting with vampires has tarnished her shiny fairy-ness?
I think on the whole the season worked if what Alan Ball was trying to achieve (assuming he was trying to achieve anything) was atomising the characters, splitting them up from what they've relied on so far, but also suggesting new beginnings for some of them. Hoyt and Jessica are back together, Lafayette and Jesus seem reconciled, Tara has gone off to find herself, Jason has discovered his role in life (liked his little scene with Andy) and Sookie is literally away with the fairies (heh!).

Either that or she's simply had it up to here with vampires and all their annoying issues.

Yes, Ian Somerhalder (who played Boone in Lost) plays Damon Salvatore, and is one of the best things about the show. I never liked him in Lost either, but he's great in this.
I should imagine Being Human will probably air around January/February time.

Date: 2010-09-21 11:06 pm (UTC)I had mixed feelings about this episode. Some of it I loved (mainly the same things you did), and some of it I thought was a bit meh. Eric continues to intrigue me, and I've found Bill's storyline interesting to watch this season (even when he's annoyed me with some of his choices!). But I'm not too sure about where they're going with Lafayette/Jesus, or with Sam and Arlene. I still think it was a good season, though, and will be eagerly looking forward to S4. And at least King Russell isn't dead, so he could make a reappearance at some point, which would be wonderful!

Date: 2010-09-21 11:29 pm (UTC)Well, it isn't much of a review, I fear. In a way, I feel as if TB finished on more of a cliffhanger even than usual, though it didn't really. That could be because there were so many separate storylines and so many of them are still hanging fire.
Not sure I like what they've done with Sam either, but I'm (reasonably) confident that he didn't shoot Tommy. Arlene's story does worry me a little, but I'm quite excited to see where they go with Lafayette and Jesus.
Mostly, though, I'm intrigued by the vampire storylines. I thought Eric had a great arc this season. Not so sure about Bill. A lot happened that made him look really bad and I'm not sure his whole 'I did it for Sookie' is enough of an exoneration.
