True Blood season 4 ep 7
Aug. 8th, 2011 05:10 pmLJ's awfully quiet, isn't it? We really should all make a concerted effort to comment more on each other's posts, or this place is going to keel over and die.
With that said, on to the review, though I don't have an awful lot to say. Spoilers behind cut.
Oh dear! Poor Tara! I'm really quite upset about what's happened to her. Now she's lost her girlfriend - or driven her away. Plus, she's let herself be drawn into Antonia's quest for vengeance. And while I don't blame her one bit after what happened to her in season 3, not to mention the very nasty threats from Pam in this episode (lucky for Tara that Pam's camera shy at the moment), you know it can't lead anywhere good. Yes, Antonia too is perfectly justified, but we all know she's not going to be allowed to kill Bill, Eric and Jessica, and probably not Pam either (Ginger may be a compulsive screamer, but she's very loyal), and what will that mean for Tara?
My money's currently on Lafayette saving everyone, even if it's partly by accident.
Aside from the main plot, Sam's storyline continues to be annoying and pointless (I was willing him to kill Tommy and really irritated that he didn't), and I don't care about Alcide and Debbie either. Sticking in bits about them just succeeded in detracting from the vampire/witch story by diffusing the tension unnecessarily.
Anyway, it was nice to see some genuine bonding between Bill and Jessica, though I still feel I've missed too much there, and Woobie!Amnesia Eric/Sookie is rather sweet, saved from being cloying by the fact that it's so obvious it won't last beyond the season. Oh well.
:worries about Tara:

Date: 2011-08-08 06:34 pm (UTC)Alan Ball did say that as the story progressed they would diverge more and more from the books, but some of that sprawling mess effect has definitely spread into the show. It's a pity. Seasons 1& 2 were great. Now, I only really like the vampire parts of the story.
And boo! for the eagles decamping, but you could always post pics of something else. :is hopeful:

Date: 2011-08-08 06:49 pm (UTC)Yes, that was all very strange. And you may well be right about how the sides split at the end. Not that Lafayette has any love for vampires.

Date: 2011-08-08 07:10 pm (UTC)A lot of people are probably away on holiday. Plus some people react to bad things in RL by withdrawing. I know I do. And it's very scary out there just now.

Date: 2011-08-08 10:42 pm (UTC)I understand why Alcide and Debbie are getting show time, but I agree that their plot thread is rather dull.

Date: 2011-08-09 05:00 am (UTC)I've found I don't really have much to say lately and what I might say just sounds trite and boring. Late summer doldrums, maybe. Plus RL is a mess pretty much everywhere.

Date: 2011-08-10 11:40 am (UTC)It would be nice, but Alan Ball seems to have decreed that Tara's life should be one long round of pain, misery and fear so it seems unlikely. Poor Tara!
