Game of Thrones Season 6 Eps 1-4
May. 16th, 2016 06:53 pmStill finding getting my head around posting very difficult for some reason, so here, very belatedly, are some brief thoughts on the first four episodes of Game of Thrones season 6. Still clueless about the books, btw, but I doubt that matters any more.
To be honest I could distil what I think about the season so far into just one sentence, which is,
God, I'm sick of Ramsey Bolton. And even sicker of him after episode four, in which he offed a character I really liked and was glad to see back on the show (Osha) in a completely offhand way, then smirked about it. Mind you, he does smirk a lot, mostly before or after horribly murdering/raping someone. So, not only is he very unpleasant, he's incredibly dull and boring.
More than anything, I'd like someone to kill him in an even more offhand way than he just killed Osha- the way Indiana Jones shoots that bloke with the sword in the first Indiana Jones film- and for the action to just close over him as if he never existed in the first place. I can only put his longevity in the series down to the fact that Benioff and Weiss get off on the character somehow, or have the mistaken (in my case anyway) belief that the audience just loves a psycho.
Sorry, no. And in any case, even if they do get rid of Ramsey Bolton, there are still plenty of psychos in the show. They're just not quite so one-note.
The boring Boltons apart, in the series so far I've been completely unsurprised by Jon Snow coming back from the dead, a little surprised by Brienne not ratting on Melisandre to Ser Davos about the horrible death of Princess Shireen, pleasantly surprised by Sansa's determination to get Winterfell back, moderately interested in what's going on with Arya, not terribly interested (though not actually bored) by events in Kingslanding and Meereen, and quite enjoyed seeing Dany prove that she's still inflammable. Looks like she might get that Dothraki army Khal Drogo promised her after all.
We'll see how it goes. As things stand, if I have to endure another season of the boring Boltons after this one I may bale on the show for good. It's become a bit of a deal breaker for me.

Date: 2016-05-18 12:47 am (UTC)I just hope someone walks by and stabs Ramsey and he just dies, no fanfare, nothing. Actually, it would be great if he was out in the woods and Jon just randomly came by and killed him, not even knowing who he was.
THIS SHOW has clearly turned me into a blood-thirsty revenge seeking fiend!
