More True Blood season 2
May. 22nd, 2010 11:32 pmYes, I'm galloping through this way too fast. Better slow down.
Today, I watched eps two and three and uploaded a few new icons.
Slight spoilers behind cut.
Still enjoying it enormously. I think I might be a bit of a Bill/Sookie 'shipper. Does this mean that I have to burn my Spuffy 'shipper card and start 'shipping Bangel?
No seriously, I do enjoy their banter, and the fact that dear old Bill is such a stick-in-the-mud (in a nice way), and I love the addition of Jessica to the mix. Am definitely a Hoyt/Jessica 'shipper. That only took one scene. He is such a sweetie, and so is she, even if she is a vampire.
All the rest is good too, though I'm not terribly interested in Maryann as yet, have to admit, though the scene where Sookie reads her thoughts and she's thinking in Greek was very chilling. She's Circe, isn't she? Seems a little odd and out of place. Is she a character from the original books or has Alan Ball (?)nicked the concept from Neil Gaiman's American Gods?
In other news, I just had a timely reminder of how unsophisticated we were back in the 1970s compared to now. Watched the songs from the famous old Bollywood movie, Sholay - the film that made Amitabh Bachchan a superstar. The first song (Yeh Dosti) is the slashiest thing I've seen in years, yet I'm pretty sure that never would have occurred to me back then, any more than it would to the makers of the movie.
In other, other news, I quite enjoyed today's Doctor Who. Nobody on my flist seems to have mentioned it yet. Did no one like it except me?

Date: 2010-05-22 10:39 pm (UTC)Maryann remined me of Circe too, she is in the book, but her role is way way smaller, she basically only shows up in the beginning and the end and has no personality in the book, also the books have no Tara (well they have one, but it's not the same person), so the parts about her and Maryann are all from the show.

Date: 2010-05-22 10:44 pm (UTC)Yes, I know that's still to come. I'm looking forward to it and have my Eric icon all ready. :)
So Maryann isn't actually Circe? She is supposed to be something very, very old, though, I suppose?
I'd heard that Tara was different in the books (not African-American either), and that Lafayette gets killed off. Very, very glad they decided not to go with that.

Date: 2010-05-22 11:00 pm (UTC)Yes, she is.
Lafayette gets killed off. Very, very glad they decided not to go with that.
Me too! The show wouldn't be the same without him.

Date: 2010-05-23 11:22 am (UTC)At the moment, what I'm enjoying most is the Doctor/Rory relationship. I like Rory.
No DW icons so a Torchwood one will have to do.

Date: 2010-05-22 10:52 pm (UTC)I'm not a huge Maryann fan myself. I liked her storyline well enough at first, but it went on a bit too long for me.
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the season!
ETA: Oh, and I enjoyed Doctor Who. I think it has been a good series so far.

Date: 2010-05-23 11:26 am (UTC)Same here, though it took me a while to warm to Sam. And I certainly never expected to like Bill, or the Bill/Sookie relationship.
That said, I'm not so set on it that I would complain if it all went horribly wrong. I also think the addition of Jessica to the household has made it a lot more interesting. It's amusing seeing the very different approaches to 'parenting' that Bill and Sookie have.
I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the season!
Well, I'm sure I'll want to share them. :) Haven't felt this enthusiastic about a show since - well, since Mad Men ended.

Date: 2010-05-23 11:43 am (UTC)I think I'm open to anything at this point, and I'm certainly not expecting Bill to be the only relationship Sookie has on the show. I do like them together, but there are other Sookie pairings I would be interested to see. I have no idea how S3 is likely to play out (I've avoided spoilers), but I'm looking forward to the ride!
Jessica is such a fabulous character! And she's an original show character - she wasn't in the books at all.

Date: 2010-05-23 11:55 am (UTC)Really? I can't imagine the show without her now. She throws such an interesting spanner into the works re: Bill/Sookie, plus she's a great counterpoint to Bill's old-fashioned stuffiness. Their dynamic is such fun.
As for Bill/Sookie, I know it peters out in the books, but I'm sure I remember Alan Ball saying it would continue to be an important factor in the show, and with Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin being an actual couple, might it make it awkward to pair Sookie off with other characters, if they're going to do as many sex scenes as Bill and Sookie do?
I suppose that shouldn't matter. After all, they're actors.

Date: 2010-05-23 04:26 pm (UTC)Ah, good to know. It took me long enough to warm to him in the show. I don't think I'll bother with the books.

Date: 2010-05-22 10:59 pm (UTC)I think I have an inner Spuffy Nazi, because when I read that first sentence, my exact thought was the second sentence!
Really glad you're enjoying it. Get yourself all caught up so you can download and watch season 3 with the rest of us!

Date: 2010-05-23 11:30 am (UTC)Heh! Of course, the similarities between the two relationships may seem enormous, but I think they're largely superficial. Plus, a lot of my enjoyment of Bill/Sookie comes from when they argue - usually because Bill is such a stuffed shirt and Sookie gets impatient with him. That's not very Bangel-like at all.

It's awfully tempting. When does season 3 start?

Date: 2010-05-23 11:43 am (UTC)When Amy was getting dragged under, there was this text overlaid over the top third of the screen reminding us about the digital switchover, and giving a phone number to call for advice.
Maye it was just in my region.
I was incandescent.

Umm..no. I don't remember anything like that. Which ep were you on? Also, I thought Amy was a season 1 character (Jason's nutty girlfriend). It is season 2 you mean, isn't it?

Date: 2010-05-23 11:33 am (UTC)Oh dear! It's going to get dragged out that long? Mind you, in season 1, the serial killer plot was supposed to be important and I just didn't care less about it. Hopefully, if there's other good stuff going on, I can sort of skate past the Marianne stuff in a similar way.
And yes, Hoyt and Jessica are very sweet.
I need an icon actually. Will have to go trawling again.
