True Blood season 3 - ep1

shapinglightSo, I watched True Blood season 3 ep one today and...
Spoilers, obviously, though I will be careful to use non-spoilery icons outside the cut.
.....damn, I love this show! Okay, so not deep. Can't imagine myself getting into deep discussions about death, love or feminism about it (which is not to say those discussions couldn't take place, because I think they could, along with ones about race and religion), but it's such enormous, campy fun!
I can't think of anything I disliked about the ep, except perhaps the necessity of Tara's descent into further darkness. I understand that it has to happen, because season 2 left her at such a low place she has to hit rock bottom and get through her grief, but I so desperately want to see her come up and out the other side. She's had such a terrible time. I just want something to come along to lift her out of that. Still, on the plus side of Tara's very down place, it gives us more Lafayette looking out for her and telling it like it is to her poor, silly mother. :loves Lafaytte a lot:
Everything else is good, from the Jason and Andy double act (yes, 'conscience off, dick on' is an immortal line -and one that Bill Willingham's version of Spike has obviously taken to heart), and their rather unlikely friendship is the best thing to come out of the Maryann debacle. Also very cute is Hoyt's and Jessica's stumbling attempt to get back together, rather stymied by the fact that Jessica has unfortunately killed someone.
Her attempts to 'make' the dead trucker were hilarious in a bizarre, out-there kind of way, because everything she does is so relatable to things a real teenager might do, except with a lot more sex and blood. :)
Sam's story doesn't interest that much yet - though it potentially could in future eps - but (as you might imagine) I loved his slashy dream about Bill. Damn, that was sexy, because Stephen Moyer gave the scene some serious welly. I hope someone makes some icons soon.
And everything to do with Sookie, Bill, Eric, Pam and Queen Sophie Ann was just great (and the gratuitous male nudity was very enjoyable too, thank you). I wonder if Eric will carry on helping Sookie look for Bill now? Probably not, with the creepy Magister breathing down his neck. Anyway, go Team Bill, 'cos Bill, though stuffy, is a bit of a sweetie, whereas Eric comes out this ep looking well dodgy.
Which is not to say I don't like him. I like them all.

I totally agree about Tara. She does need to hit the bottom hard, but I can't wait for her to rise up again and be the Tara we know. She's a totally different character to the Tara in the books so I have absolutely no idea where the tv show is going with her. I kinda like that!

I haven't read any of the books, so have no idea what is likely to come up at all, but I'm glad Tara is who she is in the show and that Lafayette didn't die, which I heard he does in the books. What a waste of a great character that would have been.
