Okay, whoever is watching Misfits, they're not talking about it on LJ any more, which is the way of it, I suppose. I can remember lots of discussion about the show in the LJ comms last year, and this episode looks like one that could've caused some huge arguments

Brief thoughts behind cut. Spoilers for the ep

I thought it was really good and dealt with a difficult subject - well, you can't say sensitively, because this is Misfits, but without shrinking from any of the unpleasantness and without glamorising it at all.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe, wherever people are discussing this show now, they're fulminating about how it was so full of fail because Mel had to turn back into Curtis to save herself, and then Emma had to be rescued by him. I dunno. I can't predict any more how people are going to react to things. I thought it was very powerful, and I like Curtis a lot more now (though I did like him before).

Other stuff. Kelly was brilliant, as always, and Rudy - astonishingly - has turned out to be even ruder than Nathan. I really didn't think that was possible. Also, I hope we see more of Mel.

*spoilers herself mercilessly by reading your post* I only watched the first ep yesterday, but it was really good and this looked really good too! I should be able to watch it at some point, and then I'll get back to you! Generally I like Curtis; he seems the most together out of all of them. More Curtis episodes, we need!

I thought it was good! I thought it had touches of edging ever so slightly towards being an exaggerated nightmare of being a woman (harrassed and attacked and then she started bleeding!!), but stuff is always compressed in Brit series so I didn't mind too much. It might have been a great moment if Mel punched Mr. Dickhead as herself, but then it also wouldn't have made much sense for Curtis's instincts to ignore the fact he can develop big punchy arm muscles at will. I was OK with the Emma rescuing as well, mostly because it wasn't staged as a rescue where Emma fell limply into Curtis's arms and thanked him for saving her. (And it also came across to me like a parallel with Emma trying to look after Mel when her drink got spiked. Although the fact that Emma went off on one when she saw Rudy with Mel was the one thing that didn't work for me, I think, because I think awareness about drinks potentially being spiked is higher among club-buddies. It would have worked better, that moment, if Emma had been clearly drunker and thus more likely to go with her first reaction like she did, I think.)

And I liked Mel's impassioned feminist rant! (And Alisha's face!!) Kelly was excellent. We must see more Mel!

We watched Downton live and caught up with Misfits later. I enjoyed it - and Curtis's slow realisation that this was what being a hot young woman could be about was interesting. I thought sending Emma away at the end was a bit of a copout and I'll be annoyed if the sex-changing goes away.

Kelly was awesome as ever, but I thought the others were marginalised to some extent; I wanted more of the core-group girls, as well as Mel. The period starting was funny, though - and Curtis utterly clueless about the practicalities.

I miss Nathan, though - Rudy has none of his charm and is even grosser than he was.

I will come to discuss as soon as I have seen it. For me there is always a bit of a delay until i get it.

I wasn't really with comms on Misfits, but I think you don't need to be worried about Game of Thrones. The fandom of the books is on it's own pretty active and I don't think it's going to be quiet anytime soon there.

that's of course possible, because there are already so many boards from the books.

But I think it helps that grrm himself is on lj and has thousands of readers and commenters. His fandom will always stay here to some extent, he was one of the reasons why I made an account back in the day. :)

I really liked it! I definitely hope that Mel continues to show up; this has become a really interesting facet to Curtis.

I enjoyed the episode's exploration of gender stuff, Misfits-style. I hope we see more of Emma; it would be really interesting to see her and Curtis with an ongoing relationship, especially if Melissa is still a part of it.

I don't think I've ever seen that done before.

Indeed! The only comparable story I can think of is the Japanese manga/anime Ranma 1/2, in which the main character is a boy who's a girl sometimes; as far as I know, though, he's in perpetual UST and never actually in a relationship.
