A poll re: the Buffy comics. If you haven't read them, everything behind the cut is spoilery. This post will probably be flocked later, but is open for now.

Okay, so I think most people - even if they're not reading the Buffy comics- have gathered that Buffy is pregnant. As of the end of the previous issue, she had decided on an abortion, but since she hasn't had it yet and may not have it, people are still speculating about who the father is, even though we were at one stage explicitly told that Buffy doesn't know. There seems to be some hedging going on about that now, though, if this interview with Scott Allie is anything to go by, so I thought I'd stick up a poll.

I voted for the Master because BtVS isn't above that level of disturbing yet.

Mystical gang-bang, Nancy Holden style? That's why I put "All of the above", but actually I don't care. I just can't seem to care about a lot in the comics, I'm afraid.

I voted for Magical Clusterfuck, too, although "Andrew (he was so drunk he forgot he was gay)" made me laugh so hard I passed coffee through my nose. XD

yeah....pretty much a cluster-fuck, I'd say. (and that doesn't even refer to the cluster-fuck that seems to be in Joss' mind about this.....)

Oh, Buffy...you were once a role-model; now you're just a sell-out comic.

I'd like to nominate Ethan.

You know, Deb, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have a clue as to what foolishness is going on in the comic-world. Which your synopsis proves. ::shudders:: Just. Yuck.

Heck if I know. Here's what Joss says:

But I did want to ask about the way she got pregnant — at the party in the first issue of Buffy Season 9, after Buffy became black-out drunk. Her behavior at that party has already bothered some fans, and to learn she got pregnant there, and doesn’t know by whom, will bother some fans even more, especially those who want Buffy to be, well, more responsible.
I think that first of all that they should wait until they have all the facts and they’ll learn stuff that they didn’t know before. They should find out what happened before they completely judge her. But at the same time, this is also about the time in your life when you do things that are irresponsible, or that you want to hold yourself to account for. She’s a person living her life, she’s not running for president — actually, I think those guys have a lot of sex. [Chuckles] She’s not living under a microscope. Well, she is, because we’re all watching her, but she doesn’t know that. And she’s going make some wrong decisions. I’m not going to turn it into a Season 6 wrong-decision-athon, but at the same time irresponsible and impulsive behavior may occur in your 20s. Consult a doctor.

http://shelf-life.ew.com/2012/02/08/buffy-season-9-joss-whedon/

On the one hand, I agree that impulse control can be iffy into one's 20s. On the other hand, I'd say very early 20s for this kind of thing, and I'm guessing that Buffy's 25 or so by now, so I don't think Joss is telling the accurate age-appropriate story here. Though, individuals vary, of course, so I'm not going to kvell too much.

The pertinent part of the quote for your question is that readers should "wait until they have all the facts and they’ll learn stuff that they didn’t know before". Um, okay. I'm not wild about this approach to storytelling. If the story isn't any good without the element of surprise, maybe it just isn't any good, you know? Ho hum.

Or it will be revealed that there was some kind of mystical influence involved. Not that it really matters because she was wearing a skirt and drinking and actions have consequences, etc.

I voted for Twangle because somebody had to. Also he is known to have viable sperm which is more than can be said for the other vampire options.

I just realised I find the idea of Buffy/Xander really squicky.

Since it's the worst possible thing that I can think of, it'll probably be a Twangel baby, in the shape of Twi-kitty that has to claw it's way out of Buffy's belly, and JOss in NO WAY got that idea from the Twilight books.

This will effectively squash any enjoyment I have been getting from Season 9, because it will once more push the wretched Season 8 into existence.

Nah, Joss pretty much apologized for season 8, so I don't think Twilight/Angel will have anything to do with the pregnancy.

It's Spike, I tells ya. I keep on saying it, but no one believes me. :-D

I vote for Spike, but mostly because it would really irritate a particularly annoying person on the Buffy forums.

I'll settle for anyone except Xander, which would creep me out because of the Dawn issue.

Oh, talking about Season Nine!
But, with the last issue, things change a bit! Maybe - maybe - she wasn't pregnant at all, maybe that was just an impression or whatever (Joss. You. EXPLAIN!)
I'm up for the mysterious Heinrich, since he's the perfect "absent father" of the situation. I hope with all my heart that Xander isn't involved, it would be shameless and Dawn doesn't deserve it. Or Buffy, really.
I think that it's important to know who is the father, even in case of abortion. I'm quite disappointed by the characterization of Buffy in the comics, I really need to find once more the girl I loved in seven season of show.
