Who's the father, then?

A poll re: the Buffy comics. If you haven't read them, everything behind the cut is spoilery. This post will probably be flocked later, but is open for now.



Okay, so I think most people - even if they're not reading the Buffy comics- have gathered that Buffy is pregnant. As of the end of the previous issue, she had decided on an abortion, but since she hasn't had it yet and may not have it, people are still speculating about who the father is, even though we were at one stage explicitly told that Buffy doesn't know. There seems to be some hedging going on about that now, though, if this interview with Scott Allie is anything to go by, so I thought I'd stick up a poll.

Yeah, that part of the interview annoyed the hell out of me. First off, I haven't seen too many judging her, they're judging Joss and his penchant for dubcon.

And unacknowledged dubcon at that. It's like if it's not in your face SR type non con, he just doesn't recognise it as dubious at all.

I still maintain that we were never supposed to have any issues with 34 at all and this whole rerun is Joss's attempt to legitimize it.

I agree that the fuss about 34 surprised Joss. Which is another reason why it's so bizarre to me that he'd go anywhere near there again.

My brain keeps going back to the interviews around that time where Allie implied that being drunk/high doesn't negate consent. Then we have this storyline.

Another thing that stuck with me is back around that time Jane gave an interview saying 'Buffy was better than that'. Then after all this, Allie gave that interview that came out a couple days after the issue that basically said 'nuh-huh'.

After all the consent issues in the series, it's entirely possible just doesn't see a problem with this type of thing at all.

That's the view I'm inclined to. I can't believe Joss would keep going back to it over and over again in the same seemingly clueless way if he realised how problematic it was. It's perplexing.

Him not seeing the problem, and the quotes we know about, give me a reaaally uneasy feeling. That whole backsliding Spike thing and Joss comment there about not knowing everything just creeps me because I do think it's going to turn out Spike is the father.

You know something, if backsliding is supposed to mean Spike goes back to his former rapist ways, I am done. I just don't see how it's the Spuffy fans' turn to get a kicking about this stuff again. Can't some other fangroup have the dubious honour?

I don't know what it could mean. It's just such an odd term; I have no idea what exactly it's supposed to mean. It's just that combined with Joss's comments about how we don't know all the facts and stuff will come out to make us judge Buffy *less*... I'm not liking it. Especially given my belief this is all just a spacefrak rehash.

I just don't want 'judging Buffy less' (not that I was judging her) to mean that we're judging Spike more. Not again, Joss. Please.

Who knows. This is the guy who had Buffy thank Xander for not taking advantage of her.

I just don't trust him to get it anymore.

I don't either. On the other hand, Chambliss's latest interview has me again thinking that maybe Allie's answers to the Buffyfest questions about who the father is are just teasing. Maybe it'll turn out not to matter at all.
