Writing wittering
Sep. 4th, 2013 06:22 pmI'm having a good week with writing this week (the first in ages).
I've written two more parts of that Ten Years After story I started on
sb_fag_ends in July (was it really that long ago?). It's now 11,000 words all told, but I still don't feel ready to post any more of it.
I've also, as I said yesterday, managed to finish the second draft of my penultimate Spike/Giles season 7 story. I've just made myself write the first few lines of the final story. I have this (no doubt mistaken) idea that I can in fact finish the whole thing for
letsgetitdone.
No idea where this sudden writing spurt has come from. Hope it lasts a little longer.
In other writing news, I've started posting some of my longer Fag Ends fics on Ao3. So far, people seem to like them so I'm going to post some more.
Does anyone post drabbles on Ao3? I mean, real, actual drabbles, with only 100 words? I've written so many now (mostly for Fag Ends) and I like the idea of having them archived on Ao3 as well.
On the other hand, it also seems like a lot of faff.
What do you think?

Date: 2013-09-05 12:25 pm (UTC)Heh! I love that description.
I suspect people can be quite lazy, and if they know something is short they're often more willing to read it. It's either that or the fact that the short fics I've posted had current dates on them, not the dates I originally wrote them, but I've had loads of hits on them already.
I hope some of the people reading might think it worth writing my longer stories too. You never know.

Date: 2013-09-04 07:12 pm (UTC)Yeah, I have drabbles on AO3. Not all of them. I think mostly via bulk import, which you could do with a load of Spuffy drabbles from fag ends, because fandom/character/relationship are all the same even if rating changes - not too fiddly.

Date: 2013-09-05 12:29 pm (UTC)I hope it's not going to turn into too much of an epic. :(
The Spike/Giles, however, is so nearly finished. Just one more story (which I hope will be quite short) and it'll be done.

Date: 2013-09-04 10:04 pm (UTC)I've put my drabbles up on AO3 under a linked "Psued" — rebshortcake — so that they are there but can be disregarded if I or a reader would like to keep them from cluttering up the place. People can look at one, the other, or both. The Spike/Dru drabbles are also all linked up under a "series" name, which is something you can decide to do later on. I'm all for having the work archived, though! Yes, please.
Would it be too much to request "Deja Vu" go up over there? It's one of my go-to fics about therapy/therapists. *\o/*

Date: 2013-09-05 12:34 pm (UTC)As for Deja Vu, you know, I hadn't given that story any thought in years. I've just re-read it, and it's...rather good. It hardly even needs revising (I found one slang word that I want to change the spelling of and one instance of over use of the phrase, 'he realised').
I don't know what happened with my writing. I started off okay, I think, then got all convoluted, with horrible long clause-ridden sentences. Then I learned the error of my ways, and now my style seems quite different (though not necessarily any better).
I will post it on Ao3. I think it's good enough.

And yay! on the writing - long may it continue (as long as you're enjoying it)!
